Hans krigsseilas var på fartøyer tilhørende hjemmeflåten. Før krigsutbruddet hadde han seilt til sjøs. Han skriver at han av den grunn av lensmannen i Sem i 1943 ble tvunget til å seile. Ved "Torridal"s torpedering på Folla omkom 15 av besetningen på 18 mann.
