Melsom var om bord da Fl./k KOSMOS ble kapret og senket. 15. november 1940 ble mannskapet overflyttet til tysk trampbåt RIO GRANDE. Ankom Bordeaux 20. desember og sendt til fangeleir utenfor Paris. Overflyttet den 10. april 1941 til tysk fangeleir. Senere hjemsendt med DOANU og ankom Oslo den 3. mai 1941. Frigitt den 5. mai.
