Gift 1917 i Skien med Helga Lien, f. 1898 i Heddal.
Da tyskerne hadde overtatt D/S HAARDRAADE, fikk skipets offiserer lov til å seile til Porsgrunn i en livbåt, men ble beskutt under reisen. Tvedt ble truffet og døde 5. mai 1940 på Stavanger sykehus. Gravlagt i Solum. Omtalt i Skiens- og Porsgrunn-avisene omkring 6. mai 1940.
