Under krigen i Norge kom han til Sverige etter langfart. Sommeren 1940 ble han sendt til Norge sammen med endel andre sjømenn. Var siden på forskjellige skip, sist på D/S ST. SVITHUN. Omkom 30. september 1943 da skipet ble bombet av fly ved Buholmen på Stad, på vei fra Tromsø til Bergen.
