Historikk 1. verdenskrig:
Sjømannen vitnet ved sjøforklaring holdt for Det Kgl. Norske Konsulat i Plymouth den 20. februar 1917, etter at DS THORGNY ble senket av en tysk ubåt den 18. februar 1917. Skipet var på reise fra Grimsby til Hennebount, Frankrike, med rujern.
