Gift 1923 i Moss med Borghild Sofie Jensen, f. 1897 i Moss. 1 barn.
Da krigen brøt ut i Norge 1940, var han maskinmester på M/S BRABANT. Skipet lå i Horten, og han ble tvunget til å gå fra borde da tyskerne tok Horten. I 1941 påmønstret han M/S KNUTE NELSON som maskinmester, og omkom 27. september 1944 da skipet ble minesprengt ved Obrestad, Jæren.
