Registernummer under krigen: London 17900, NY 2231.
Lydløst ble M/S KATTEGAT oppbragt av den tyske hjelpekrysser MICHEL, og deretter ble M/S KATTEGAT underlagt voldsom artilleriild i pos. S 28.11, W 11.30' - 400 nautiske mil fra Tristan da Cunha på reise fra Cape Town til Montevideo. Hele den norske besetningen var uskadet og ble overført til Michel. Deretter ble M/S KATEGATT senket med en sprengladning av tysk besetning. Hele manskapet på 32 ble tatt som fanger og ført til Japan.
20.5.1942 Ført til Japan. Krigs-fangenskap i Tokyo, Japan til 9.9.1945, befridd og frigitt etter Japans kapitulasjon.
Ankom San Francisco, Cal. USA 3.11.1945. Ankom Oslo 19.12.1945. Fangeskapslønn fra 28.7.1942 til 3.1.1946.
