Sigurs M. Mathiesen var stuert, han kom fra Bergen og var født 10. april 1908. Han var sønn av Salomon Mathiesen, f. 1877 i Bergen. Gift 1932 i Bergen med Klara Gurine Taule, f. 1904 i Manger.2 barn. Folkehøgskole, stuertskole. Seilte under krigen i alliert fart på m/s Nortind. Skipet gikk i konvoi fra New York 14. januar 1943 med kurs for Mersey. Det ble sist sett 24. januar da det lå ved siden av den havarerte m/t Kollbjørg, i ferd med å redde mannskapet. Senket av en tysk ubåt U 358
den 26/1-43
