RINGULV ble internert 22. juni 1940 i Casablanca. Den 17. juni 1941 ble skipet overtatt av Vichy-myndightene. Mannskapet ble tatt i land med opphold i forskjellige interneringsleire. Frigitt den 16. november i 1942. Fivelsdal reiste fra Port Lyautey den 23. januar 1943 til Dakar og mønstret på "Rutenfjell" som fyrbøter.
