Han var ute da krigen begynte, og hadde fart til sjøs i ca.34 måneder.
Mønstret av og meldte seg ti marinen. (M/T GALIA, som forøvrig hadde noe av en rekord, i det skipet førte 330 tusen tonn olje over Atlanteren på 55 turer.)
Antatt i marinen og ble utdannet til skytter i Dumbarton, Scotland.
Kom hjem til Norge med M/T HØEGH SCOUT den 30.11.1945 og dimittert i Oslo 11.januar 1946.
