Antatt i marinen og ble utdannet til skytter i Camp Norway, Lunenburg, Canada.
Senere gjorde han tjeneste som skytter på følgende norske handelsskip:
M/S FERNPLANT fra 8.8.1942 til 31.8.1942. overført
M/T VANJA fra 1.9.1942 til 1.12.1943. (rapport fra dekksjournalen om bord på M/T VANJA av Oslo.)

For sin innsats for Norge under den annen verdenskrig ble han ble tildelt Krigsmedaljen, Deltakermedaljen og Haakon den VII`s 70 års medalje.
