Etter avmønstring "Toledo" i New York reiste Bogen videre til Toronto, Canada for å melde seg til tjeneste i det norske Flyvåpen hvor han tjenestegjorde fra 16.11.1942 til 11,sept 1945.
Bosatte seg i Vancouver, B.C. og ble kanadisk statsborger 1948.

Kåre Bogen var om bord på MT «B.P. Newton» som var en av Kvarstadbåtene som i april 1942 forsøkte å komme seg til alliert havn. Newton var den ene av to Kvarstadbåter som brøt den tyske blokaden og som klarte å komme seg til Storbritannia.
