D/S Liv var beliggende i Trapani og lastet salt for vest-landet og nord-norge da Italia gikk med i krigen den 10.06.40.  Båten ble slept til Palermo av italiensk marinefartøy, og ble liggende der til 04.10.40.   Hele mannskapet unntatt 4-5 mann ble beordret i land, og bodde på hotell  Etter en ukes tid ble de hjemsendt til Norge med ankomst Oslo 19.10.40.  Avmønstring fant sted samme dag.  Da båten hefter for hyre f.o.m. 20.04.40. t.o.m. 09.06.40. , pluss 2 mndrs. ekstrahyre t.o.m. 09.08.40., blir fangenskapslønn  å beregne f.o.m. 10.08.40. t.o.m. 19.12.40.
